So let's get this straight... Gandhi is in Hell and Jeffrey Dahmer (the serial killer) is in Heaven?
Gandhi, the great spiritual leader and humanitarian was not a Christian, though he surely would have been aware of Christianity. Dahmer, who was a cannibal and mass murder, is widely known to have become a Christian in his final years of life in prison. People close to him felt that his conversion was sincere. So, is Gandhi is Hell for not being a Christian? And is Dahmer in Heaven? I have no problem accepting that any sinner, however terrible, can be saved. Therefore I would not dispute the possibility that even Dahmer is in Heaven. But I must say that I have a huge issue with the idea that our loving God would send wonderful people, who happen to NOT be nominal Christians, to Hell for eternal suffering. Your thoughts?

- I'm with you, buddy
- My thoughts are that neither of these places exist. See how simple that is?
- No, that's all just mythology that we are currently embracing.
- Another perfect example of Christianity's extreme ill-logic.
- It would seem so.. If what you state about Dahmer is true then he was forgiven and if Ghandi never repented then he is not forgiven.. However wonderful you might think someone is they still have to settle the sin question and God has made the only way to do it. Ghandi knew about Christianity and rejected it and therefore rejected salvation.. The rules are the same for everyone.
- My thought is that GOD is the only one able to judge others. He can let in whoever he wants to!
- There is no God
- "Works" do not get you into heaven. Sorry that you dont get it, but that is how it works. We cannot understand the decisions made by God and it is not ours to understand. Why not worry about yourself and what your eternal life would be like.
- Yes, it is entirely possible that Ghandi is in hell, maybe even along with Mother Teresa, and Dahmer is in heaven. No one knows for sure, but Biblically and theologically it is very possible.
- Gandhi Is in heaven and Dahmer became a sacred cow.
- Sounds perfectly fair to me if you aren't a believer and thus a donater to a Christian church why would they tell you your going to heaven. If they tell you you have to worship they get more money from your attendance and donations.
- LOL... excellent examples! This rubbish about hell was created by the church to frighten people into toeing the line. (I've discovered a lot of Muslims are scared of hell too.)
- In Christianity you can do the worse possible unspeakable evils and you'll be forgiven simply because you're a Christian. Yet if you lived your life doing nothing wrong you will be punished forever in hell because you arent. Sounds more like a racket than a religion. If man was to make a religion he'd make it exactly like that: you dont have to do anything to get to heaven
- Let's get this straight... the Christian God is extremely limited in scope as far as we know it. Get real... this is solely one world with many preconceptions; WE have no true idea of the afterlife. You are being silly. God is God...and we have no clue!
- Maybe neither exist? That would make the most sense!
- God has to save your soul so you can go to heaven, it's not about how good of a person you are it's how good of a christian you are.
- Well, I'm sure God knows exactly what he is doing. Only he knows the hearts and minds of people. You don't know that either of them are, or are not in heaven, but i guess we will both find out when/if we get there.
- That's the stupidest thing I ever heard. I'm atheist, but I'm open-minded and everything. If I were to look at if from a Christian's perspective, wouldn't this 'god' choose good people to go to heaven? I don't think they would go to hell just for not believing in him, because then every non-Christian person would be going to hell. But it doesn't exist anyway, so I'm not worrying about it. ;]
- Um for your information just because you're not Christian doesn't mean you go to hell. In fact, most people who are not Christian don't even believe in heaven or hell. In fact, it's called R-E-I-N-C-A-R-N-A-T-I-O-N. Heard of it? I don't think so. It's time for you to research world religions, friend.
- in the bible it says if u aren't saved u aren't going 2 heavan even if ur some great guy but if he knew about god and didn't accept him then yea he'll go 2 hell
- good one; enough to make die-hard christians squirm at the concept of a blanket pardon.
- Ghandi once said something like "you Christians have everything you need to achieve world peace right here (the Bible) but you treat it like a nice piece of literature". Nobody can tell who is saved and who isn't. It's all a matter of the heart and we cannot judge for others, only Jesus can.
- I don't think this question has been asked enough times to warrant Drinking Question status, but it is getting close. Gandhi didn't believe in the Christian hell, so your question is moot.
- no i dont believe gandhi is in hell. but god forgives everyone
- Eternal Suffering - Hell?.. Sorry... your faith's delights you can keep them along with your god
- I understand what you're saying, and I believe that if God does allow for anyone to spend time in hell, it's because of that person's own choosing, and not necessarily permanent. But I also believe that exposure to God Himself at some point after death cleanses all impurities away, like a crucible, and all are filled with joy and awe.
- You are sadly mistaken in your analogy my friend. Ghandi admired and believed in Jesus Christ the person and the doer of deeds. In fact, he followed almost to the letter the teachings of the sermon on the mount. It takes more than the spoken word that "I believe" to be a Christian. Deeds speak volumes much louder than words. It is by your deeds that ye shall be known. These are the words of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Phony christians, such as preachers who set up phony charitable foundations and then use all the money they bring in only to pay themselves and their family members salaries; and then run for president of the united states, as an example, are not true Christians and will never see the light of Heaven. there are more than enough hypocrites in this world and sadly, a lot of them are calling themselves christians.
- Don't ask - ours is not to reason why, but to do or die. You know the right answer, and those with the blinders off know it, too. The rest have a way to go to get to their enlightenment happy place. So embody peace, and have a very happy new year!
- the actual fact is all religions are just different roads to reach the same destination ....Like the saying "all Roads Leads to Rome" So no matter which religion you follow, if you believe in the existence of The highest spirit "GOD".Gandhi used to believe in God And Dahmer also believed in God So my Opinion Is both of them are in Heaven
- Do you consider yourself a good person? The dictionary says "good" is to be "morally excellent." Let s look at God s moral standard the Ten Commandments, and see how we do. Is God first in your life? Do you love Him with "heart, mind, soul and strength?" Have you made a god to suit yourself? Have you used His name in vain? Have you always honored your parents? Have you looked with lust and therefore committed adultery in your heart? Have you lied (including "fibs"), stolen (the value is irrelevant), or coveted other people s possessions? If you are honest, you know you will be guilty on the Day of Judgment. God, however, doesn t want to send you to Hell. Jesus Christ suffered and died on the Cross, so you could go free. That s how much God loves you. We broke God s Law, but Jesus took our punishment and died on the cross. He then rose from the grave defeating death. If you repent (turn away from all the things you know are wrong) and trust in Him, God will forgive your sins and grant you everlasting life. Begin by reading your Bible daily and then obey what you read. God will never let you down. THINGS GOD HATES — 11 These six things the LORD hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren. —Proverbs 6: 16-19 "For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery." —Isaiah 81:8a "But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death." —Revelation 21:8 Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth. "For the LORD . . . says that He hates divorce." —Malachi 2:15b, 16a "‘Let none of you think evil in your heart against your neighbor; and do not love a false oath. For all these are things that I hate,' says the LORD." —Zechariah 8:17 "You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God." —Luke 16:15b
- your right however i think that god would accept ghandi and if he didnt i would be deaply concernd!
- You are talking like an idiot. Gandhi was more of a christian than many christians. He read the bible more than most christians. He used to tell the British to go and read their bible if they wanted to learn how to live peacefully. I suggest you read a biography of Gandhi before proclaiming that he was not a christian. A christian is not one who proclaims to be a christian and live like a sinner. A true christian is a person who live like a christain without shouting fromt he rooftop that he or she is a christian.
- that is why after 12 years of being a christian, from 6years old to 18,i finaly gave up with itbecause it only confused me so much that i had nightmares.today im free of forced worship,i respect all people,i follow Jesus teachings about love, and not to judge, all i judge is judging others, for only God in heaven are allowed to judge, not man,and definately not christian slaves
- Gandhi was not the great humanitarian some would have you believe. He let his wife whither to death when she was sick with pneumonia and needed penicillin. He wouldn't let her be injected with this "foreign" medicine. However, a few years later, he happily consumed quinine to cure himself of malaria. Moreover, he even underwent an appendicitis operation performed by British doctors. Gandhi believed that the Jews in Hitler's Germany should have gone to their deaths voluntarily to score a 'moral victory' over the Nazis. When the Nawab of Maler Kotla issued an order to shoot ten Muslims for every Hindu who was killed in the state, Gandhi gave it his blessing. "I would not flinch from sacrificing a million lives for India's liberty." ~ Gandhi As far as where Gandhi and Jeffrey Dahmer might be, since none of us are dead, none of us know, though some may pretend to know.
- No matter how wonderful a person seems in the eyes of the world their good deeds will be as filthy rags to God. They will not be recognized until they are washed in the powerful blood of the lamb.
- This is simple..there is no heaven or hell just what our mind creates for us. Also, if these places did exist then the people who scream out their love and devotion for christ and pass judgement on others who beleive in other ways are the ones who would go to hell. You know who you are!
- well, according to your religion , that's right. but when you think of it ,all the religions say the same thing . so according to Candi's religion , u and Jeffrey Dahmer are in hell
- First of all, Christianity is so varied. I mean, sure, we all believe in God but there's so much discrepancy between, let's say, a Baptist and a Catholic, so it's not really true that all Christians condemn those who don't "share the faith". I guess it depends on what kind of Christian you are (isn't that ironic? Having the same religion but there's a need to classify yourself.) I've been Protestant (I don't really stick to one 'category' - I mean, is there really a big difference between a Baptist and a Methodist? Jeez.) since birth, and I've never really had any problems about my religion. I was brought up to believe that it's not just the 'Christians' who necessarily go to heaven. In reality, all of us - whether we're Hindu, Muslim, Jewish - believe in the same God; it's just that we have different interpretations of who He is. If the Hindus see Him in a thousand different gods, so be it. The conclusion is that each of us will go to heaven depending on how well we served our own religions, because in the end, we're all serving the same God. Doesn't that sound pretty fair? In this sense, Gandhi definitely would've gone to heaven. Of course, not all Christians view it this way. Personally, I'm weary of the whole "either you believe in God or you go to hell" ideology, but the Catholics are adamant on keeping that.
- It is not a matter of what a person SAYS they are, as what they are in their heart. All religions arrive at the same place. They all want to be next to God. People get the life they think. As they think, so is their life. This continues into the afterlife. "In my Father's house there are many mansions" "I will go and prepare a place for you" Ghandi definitely would have gone to a beautiful place because he was a beautiful person. Dahmer will have to feel the pain he caused every person in his life as if it happened to him, then sort out what his lesson should be, and move on from there. This is what we all do. We are the judge and jury. We find out just how well we did at this point, or how badly. It is my contention that those who torture others for no reason other than personal gratification are ill. A healthy person would not do that. We can hate the deed but not the person. God is love. Not fear. Not punishment. God has patience. We can be a fool before we become wise and if we are truly sorry for what we did and don't do it again, God lets us move on from there. People live a certain life for various reasons. As it has been said, God moves in mysterious ways. sometimes we need someone to appall us so that we try harder to be good people. My explanation for sanity and insanity: sanity is when we do not enact our insane thoughts.
- both are in hell(common grave of mankind)there is no literal place of torture. the wages of sin is death.
- The king always protects his subjects and so does God to his loving devotees. Don't forget the only price to get his loving attention is your service and love for him. And He does not make any distinctions, like we, between caste, creed etc.
- first of all never say gandhi say GANDHI JI secondly it doesent mean coz u a hindu u go to hell and if u accept christianity u go to heaven its the way he was brought up its not his fault i believe christ judges people by analyzing their heart their thoughts and their deeds not their religion eg - jesus was hebrew and mother terresa was catholic but it dont mean she went to hell look at her deeds and her thoughts and her heart they were pure as gold basically if we follow ten commandments than the possibilites of us going to heaven increases and if we accept jesus in our life then we will be blessed but not guarnteed to go to heaven tehtas done by god analyzing out heart deeds and thought hope it helps
- If there is a hell, everybody is going to be there. According to each and every religion, all evil people and peoples of other religions are going to hell. Since they cannot ALL be wrong, therefore one or more must be right. If they are ALL right, then EVERYONE IS GOING TO HELL. Truthfully, I believe heaven or hell is here right on earth. If all people did as their religion teach and practice a life of peace, meditation, reflection, prayer, and love--what a lovely place this world will be. I'll be ready when that day comes. Until then, I'll be one of the many sheepdogs looking after the sheep who chosse to believe the world is safe and peaceful, when reality it is anything but....
- So if you got to make the salvation rules, things would be a lot better?!? I don't get you people sometimes - God is the only judge. He decides who goes to heaven and who goes to hell. I personally like the idea that nobody - not even Jeffrey Dahmer or Adolph Hitler - is beyond the redemptive power of God's grace. That means I have a chance too! And as to the good people like Gandhi who rejected God's free gift of eternal life voluntarily of their own accord; well who knows? In the parables of the Good Samaritan and the Day Laborer, Jesus Christ Himself implied that our actions, our deeds would be much more determinant to our salvation than our faith. So maybe Gandhi is in heaven too. The point is not really the final destination of Jeffrey Dahmer or Mahatma Gandhi - but what is your final destination? Do you know where you are going? And how secure in that knowledge are you? The scriptures clearly teach us to "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling". I think that is where our best efforts should be focused - let God take care of the judgment side of things. He has never asked for - nor do I suspect He will ever need - my help!
- I'm talking as an atheist but from my understanding of the bible then yes in the strictest sense of the bible. but their are many religions with no prof if any are 'correct' so whats to say that Gandhi as a Jainism was not correct? if he was then Gandhi is reaping the karma of his actions and living a very happy life now and Dahmer is now in a reborn hell for what he did?
- Religion is man-made... You should believe in God--not religion. An old friend said this, "All religions were spawned by the devil to divide and cause chaos in the human race...look at all the wars in the world in our history...a philosopher never killed a clergy...but religion turns out the worst in us." I suppose that's an extreme way of looking at it... Either way, when you get caught up in what other people want you to believe, your life is in no longer yours. There will be many holes in ideas, inconsistencies and lies... K.
- I think you missed it all on your assessment. You don't go to hell because you are not a Christian. And you don't go to heaven because you just claim to be a christian. In a nut shell, knowing Christ first, second clause is where is your heart. And only God knows where your heart is. If you confess to being a Christian just to get out of going to hell, sorry, no go. Let me add this, Dahmer was not a man driven by conviction of one sort or another unlike Gandhi. One was driven by hate, the other driven by compassion. The question then goes back to you. Who do you think is in heaven and why? Do you understand the weightier things of the heart. You believe with your heart, and you confess with your lips. Gandhi had his heart in the right place while not knowing Christ. Dahmer just confessed with his lips while having an empty heart.
- you can never be sure of ones everlasting status I mean how do you know Gandhi is in hell and Dahmer is in Heaven Gandhi may not have really and truly been a christian he might have seemed so on the out side but God looks within thus Dahmer on the out side Dahmer was a murdering Psychopath but perhaps on the inside he was a believer in Christ but to help you with this I ll tell you something the key to salvation is Jesus Christ you must first understand that you are a sinner and ask for forgiveness in the name of God the Lord Jesus Christ and then you need to really and truly in your Heart believe in him and you shall receive Eternal life in heaven. If Gandhi truly is in hell he must not have done all these things and If Damher truly is in Heaven he must and done ALL these things I pray that all of you who read this are converted in the one and only truth of Jesus' love and forgiveness and if your wondering what church teaches the truth look up a Missouri Synod Lutheran church
- There's no such thing. So it sucks for his years of praying
