Jeffrey Dahmer

Do you consider Jeffrey Dahmer a mentally ill criminal or an intention killer?

I am researching and looking more into Jeffrey Dahmer. So, do you think he intentially knew what he was doing or do you think he had a mental problem? Thanks for your help!

  1. Totally a mental problem. Even though he did horrible, unspeakable things, I think his brain was out of whack.
  2. i think he knew was he was doing but was mental to do so!
  3. I followed that case, and feel that while being mentally ill, he was aware of what he was doing, and the ramifications if and when he was caught. He was a cold blooded sociopath.
  4. His mental problem led him to intentionally do insane things.
  5. Both. No sane person would kill, nor commit cannibalism, nor store body parts in the freezer to keep the person "with you forever". But he knew what he was doing, the fact that he told the cops that one Asian kid who got away was his lover and they were having a spat....he knew what he was doing and it was wrong, not to mention he was convincing enough to the cops that they didn't research it any further and "turned the kid back over" to Dahmer.
  6. Jeffrey Dahmer was a mentally ill criminal because his mind drove him to follow thru on intents to kill. There is the question of whether he knew right from wrong, but there is no question but that he did exactly what he wanted to do either because he did not care about the consequences, or was unaware that there would be consequences, or because he did not know the consequences This is the saga of all psychopaths and the story of all deliberate murders. What is unique about Jeffrey Dahmer's case is that the crimes were so heinous and their details were so flagrantly spectacular that most people are fascinated and captivated by them. Of course he knew what he was doing. He did exactly as he wished and consequences be damned.
  7. I find this a strange distinction. A mentally ill person as opposed to an 'intention' killer? What's the difference here? If someone intends to kill a lot of people, and, as in his case, munch on them afterward... well what is that but mentally ill. Do you think that mentally ill people don't function with intent? The phrase you use 'intentionally knew' is one that doesn't make much sense to me. If you are talking about conscience and a true understanding of consequences, that isa separate matter. But I would suggest that there is no real distinction such as the one you have made.
  8. Both. Nobody could do what he did and be in their right mind. And what he did was certainly premeditated/intentional.
  9. I believe he was mentally deranged, but within the system of law, mentally fit to stand trial.
